Heroes quick thoughts
All I really seemed to focus on on this viewing was where there were good match ups with things we know about the past and where there were bad match ups. AT first it was okay and I *think* I can make most of it fit, some of it was even good to have explained. But some of it...doesn't.
a) Arthur's death and Sylar's first kill were presented as occurring at basically the same time in "Six Months Ago" here...not so much.
b) Provided I don't try and match it up with any of the other timelines in the episode, I think I can believe Meridith's plot covered the time between ~6 months pre season 1 and the start of the season. In fact it quite works to explain why she was in Texas at that point, although not why she was using her own name.
b2) There must be another invisible man out there or Claude was just hanging around for the hell of it, because this is a hell of a long time after Noah shot him (6-7 years) so it couldn't have been him. Although I might *almost* forgive the lapse in continuity (I won't though) if it means Claude is coming back.
c) There is no way this covered Sylar's entire history between SMA and the start of season 1, but it seemed to here and that annoys me. Although maybe there was some time left out in the middle...maybe this plot actually started post Chandra's death? Obviously ignoring the date stamp we were given since Chandra's death was just before season 1...and there wasn't enough time between that and HRG in Mohinder's taxi either... That's really the one bothering me.
d) Timelines aside (and that's saying something) I have other opinions on the episode.
The Good
-The ending, totally did not see that one coming. At least some things still manage to surprise me and be awesome.
-I liked Sylar and Elle interaction surprisingly since I don't really like either character that much; but then this was a Sylar/Gabriel I actually believed had redeeming qualities. Before he started murdering indiscriminately and I could believe was upset by what he'd done, something I still don't see in current!Sylar.
-I liked that Meridith and the other flame guy seem to be related, didn't call it but it makes since (and gives me more evidence for Nathan totally not being a Petrelli and therefore Paire isn't incest WHEE).
The Middling:
-I totally called that they were going to make the train crash the one from the pilot even if the time lines didn't match up right.
-It turns out I don't find villains all that interesting without the heroes (really *not* shocking). Without Claire, much Peter, Hiro and Ando doing anything, Matt, or...even most of the good morally grey characters (Noah kind of, but I have a hard time sliding back into seeing him in S1 mode) like Daphne or Mohinder.
The Not So Good:
-Not happy about the de-bastardization of Thompson. Noah shooting him is still one of the highlights of the series for me, don't go trying to make him not a complete bastard.
-While the death of African!Issac was shocking (and therefore in the good section) I am sad about it since he was kind of...an interesting character.
