Yeah, the last couple were probably my favorites too. The first couple were more meta points I wanted to explore, the third I have quite frankly given way too much thought to some pretty nasty things for the Master to have done to Jack (and psychologically to the Doctor) in the lost year so I'm rather glad that to appearances RTD doesn't think like me, but the last two are just...melancholy. It's knowing that that light is out there but you can't find it.
I also blame a recent rewatch of TIP for the can't point the direction home concept, it got me thinking that with a universe between them, Rose and the Doctor can't do the look up at the sky and know that somewhere out there they're looking back thing, which then got me thinking that Gallifrey is the same way; so it was a concept I needed to use somewhere, and probably will again.
