I should probably say this ship has sailed, I'm several fandoms past TVD at this point and I walked away so angry that going back is pretty unlikely. But if the urge to revisit S1-3 of the show (also known as the only part of the show I want to remember) ever gets me I can kind of see wanting to return to this AU too. So call it over, with a caveat that nothing is ever impossible.
As for a few of my plans going forward. -The next story was going to focus on Alaric's situation. I know I had planned for Ester's ultimate plan to be different in this story than it was in canon but she was still involved (and damned if I can remember the details right now). I think part of the reason they were never able to find the stake was because she had it. So as Elijah tried to get into Alaric's brain the next story would have people taking sides around Ric, while Elena and Elijah continued to secret sexy times.
-The story after that - unless there was another story in the middle of Elijah going off on his own and I dealt with some other issues in the rest of Elena's life - was going to involve a road trip (I did figure that one would be called 'To Sail Beyond Safe Harbor' I really wanted to use that title) with Elena, Elijah, Bonnie, and maybe Caroline but I can't remember for sure going off to consult the resources Elijah talks about here. It's rather fraught since Bonnie pretty much hates Elijah but she needs to come along since there's bound to be witch business (a doppelganger, an Original, and a witch go on a road trip). I suspect I was going to have the secret relationship at least partially come out here (maybe why I wanted Caroline along but couldn't make up my mind); also since Elena would finally get some real distance from the Salvatores she'd also put some more emotional distance there.
-I remember I was trying to figure out a way for the solution to all this also bring back at least Jeremy if not Finn, but I don't remember if I had a solution to that. In keeping with Elena and Elijah being my leads the solution would have involved a lot of teamwork and compromise, even with their enemies.
-Not remembering a lot of how I was going to resolve the conflict (if I'd ever had a clear plan, which I knew I had ideas but I don't think I had a plan) I'm not sure how I intended to end the story; but considering how much I really wanted Elena and Elijah's European vacation, it's not a bad assumption for how it would have ended. But they definitely would have been together, you can count on that.
-I know I had plans for Tyler to factor into this somewhere. Caroline is actually with him out in the woods at the end of the part when she tells Elena she's not at home.
(Maybe I should actually reread this story and see if it jogs and memories of where it was going; maybe if I actually finish one of these AoS fics I've been trying lately I'd feel better reopening the door to this epic.)
