TVD speculation

You might think this means I actually care abut what's going on on TVD, but I was just feeling chatty after doing a short reaction post this week and there are some upcoming plots that...I care about the fact the writers will probably screw up.

Speculation about the plotlines on TVD

-I remain convinced that Elena’s vampirism is a one season plot thread. While they have set up that flipping the switch may have done away with the sire bond and they *could* try and coast by on that I think it’s still the biggest proof that this situation is ultimately temporary (and probably always has been in the writers’ minds). In addition, I have recalled that in the books Elena wasn’t a vampire for very long before she died and was reborn as human again (after some REALLY awful diversion into fallen angel territory that grossed me out to the point I had to stop reading the books entirely) and I could totally see that happening here too. And just the fact that the writers have clearly had no interest in writing vampire-Elena so I have a hard time thinking they’ll stick with it.

-Going back to book inspiration, I can see a variant of the ghost Elena marshaling an army of the dead and then coming back human again. It would tie in with the throwing open the gates of the Other Side. If it does go there I probably won’t watch next season right away because of how much it’s clearly borrowing from the books means we’ll probably end up with the gross angel bit and I would probably have to go on a murder spree if I saw that being played out in the show verse.

-If they are going that way I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Elena dies in the next couple episodes so more people get behind the idea of taking own the Other Side to “save” her. And fulfilling the retuned human qualification.

-I suspect we will see Silas start taking down the Other Side but we won’t see many if any people return, but it will be implied that probably a few came back, therefore they have the option of saying some characters came back (and possible vengeance/reunion plotlines that would provide) without needing to say that every supernatural creature from ever came back.

-The only people I expect to be confirmed returned are Jeremy and Kol (and Kol maybe not right away), both onscreen deaths that didn’t feel final even as they were done. Plus I think TVD doesn’t want to deal with Jer being dead for realsies, and Kol mostly because of The Originals. I want the possibility of resurrected Finn just because I love the weirdo, but I don’t expect that (or the possibility of Mikael or Esther) to be confirmed if/until the TO team wants the whole family together again (because who can resist that club of immortal teenagers?).

-Somehow this will all connect with why The Originals is set in New Orleans.

-I hate to say it, but I don’t think we’re going to get any Tatia out of this. Because if Tatia did become a factor I’m not sure what they would do with her in the end. Guesting on The Originals would be the most logical, but I assume Nina is still mostly on TVD next year (damn do I wish we could pack her and all her characters off to TO since Elena, Kat, and Tatia would be great to have mixed with the Originals rather than the god forsaken Triangle that will doubtless not die in spite of all the reasons this season has given for why it should (not to mention all the reasons of the previous years)).

(and now for something a bit more specific)

About the much discussed (at least in my circles) scene coming in 4x18:

Apparently there’s supposed to be some Elijah/[Elena-Katherine-Elena as Katherine-Katherine as Elena] kissing action I fully expect this to send fandom into a tizzy regardless of which option it turns out to be.

In my head the most likely option is Elena playing Katherine initiates the kiss because she thinks that’s what Katherine would do and room to fanwank that well Elena’s doing whatever she decides she wants to do right now and Elijah is so pretty and right there after all. Elijah’s reaction to it is going to be the real telling factor in what the writers are going for because in my reading Elijah has no interest in making out with Kat, and I think he’d pretty quickly realize it wasn’t Kat if she started doing that. Unless he thinks he’s playing her and possibly pretending she’s Elena.

Then there was the most recent blurb I saw about it where Gillies thinks Elijah’s going to horrify some people, from which made my thought process goes to compelling Elena to turn her humanity back on. Which would be sketchy obviously and I’d have to yell at him about it, but I don’t consider it out of the range of possibility. It would short circuit the writers having to write Elena back to that point and make this diversion to the dark side even more random and meaningless than ever. But it also wouldn’t be all that out of character for Elijah; he was the first vampire we ever saw successfully compel Elena, Elena’s humanity is the thing he loved about her, he can’t make deals with humanity-off Elena because he can’t trust her, and on the darker note it makes her feel the loss of Jeremy as he’s possibly still angry about the whole Kol killing thing (no one else seems to be any more so who’s to say).

I’m not saying that’s how it will go, in fact the fact that it fits together so easily in my head probably means it would never occur to the writers (yes, even when part of my reasoning is how they’ll want to take the easy way out of a plot I think they’re too stupid or lazy to take the easy way out in an smartish fashion). But I’ll still put it out there as food for thought.

I have to say, I’m not actually looking forward to this all that much because I want REAL-Elena/Elijah action, not Elijah/Kat, not Elijah/semi-Elena or Elena-doll, not them going about it pretending other things into it. I ship real-Elena and Elijah; and while there’s a chance this could give me something to enjoy at least (and may not even give me that), I’m pretty sure it’s not going to give me what I actually want.
