I’m not sure what TO writers have thought about re. Elijah’s backstory, we’ve gotten so little of it that I’m willing to give them a little more time to see if they can pull it together. Maybe he’d undaggered Kol and run off during Marcel’s childhood and Klaus lied to him about daggering Rebekah for a few decades. Maybe it’s something else entirely that would actually make sense. After TVD s4 I’m not hugely hopeful the writers will end up making sense, but I’m waiting to see if they can/how little sense it might make when they do explain.
And I’m on the lookout for anything that will work in the backstory for my AU. For example I have a whole story behind my version of Scary Mary that only mildly resembles canon. But stuff that either really fits or some element I can refurbish to fit is nice to get.
When it comes to 4x18 I’ve rewatched the Elena/Elijah and Elena-Katherine scenes a lot, a little of Katherine and the rest of the gang, but pretty much ignore Klaus/Caroline and Elijah/Katherine and the Salvatores on the their own. The advantage of having it on the computer and just skipping around, only watching what’s relevant to my interests. I’m not sure I’d say Elijah/Katherine ruined it for me because there was a lot left to like, but I don’t *get* it. Their “relationship” makes absolutely no sense. All the s4 stuff between and surrounding Elijah and Katherine just convinced me that they don’t work in any real way so I’ve become pretty convinced that the only reason it happened was so they could do the Elijah/Elena kiss without it having may impact on the plot.
If and when I ever really bring Elijah/Katherine up in this story beyond Elena’s assumptions about it, it will be a lot different than the show presented. *I* remember that he’s spent the last 500 years hunting her for the “unforgivable” crime of surviving, and that 4x18 is bullshit with its “Elijah helped Katherine escape” retcon.
